The fashion world is reeling after Cindy Crawford’s only son, Presley Gerber, died at just 27 years old — and the circumstances are absolutely devastating.

Details are still trickling in about the young model’s sudden passing over the weekend. Fans are completely heartbroken as they piece together his final days and his widely publicized battles.

While officials are keeping many facts under wraps, the location of his death speaks volumes about his recent struggles. His famous family is now grappling with an unimaginable loss.

Presley’s Grieving Family Confirms His Death

A representative for Cindy, Rande, and Kaia confirmed Presley’s death and shared the family’s request as they grappled with the devastating loss. “The family is asking for privacy during this very difficult and painful time,” the representative said.

Presley was just 27. An autopsy had not yet been completed when his death was reported, and authorities had not released a cause of death. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner listed Presley’s case as open under case number 2026-14977.

And under “Place of Death,” the public record reveals the detail that immediately stands out: Rehabilitation Facility. That revelation comes after years in which Presley’s struggles had unfolded partly in the public eye, including through deeply personal admissions from the model himself.

Presley’s DUI, Treatment, and Mental Health Plans

Presley’s troubles had spilled into public view years earlier. In January 2019, Presley was arrested for driving under the influence. Later that year, he received three years of probation and was ordered to complete a DUI program and two days of community service.

By March 2020, sources were publicly discussing Cindy and Rande’s concerns for their son. One source said at the time that Cindy and Rande had been trying to get Presley help since the DUI.

Presley had already been in treatment, according to the source, while his parents were pushing for something more serious. But years later, Presley was no longer leaving others to speak about his experiences for him.

In a March 2023 interview, he revealed plans to use what he had learned from his own struggles to help other people dealing with their mental health.

Presley said he was working toward obtaining his real estate license while developing other projects. Among them was an idea tentatively called “Mental Health Mondays.”

He envisioned devoting each Monday to different aspects of mental health, including conversations with trainers and nutritionists and stories about treatments he had attended himself.

Presley also wanted to discuss “green flags and red flags to look for” when seeking treatment. Therapy, Western medicine, exercise, and changes to his diet were among the areas he said he had explored.

For Presley, however, the project appeared to mean far more than simply creating content. It had become something deeply important to his everyday life. “I think that’s really what’s getting me going. That’s what’s getting me out of bed these days,” he said.

He hoped that by speaking candidly about what he had experienced, other people might benefit from his journey — and perhaps avoid some of the difficulties he had encountered himself.

Kaia Recently Spoke About Her Brother’s Addiction

Just over a month before Presley’s death, Kaia spoke candidly about her older brother’s struggles in a Vogue interview published on August 11. The magazine described Presley as having endured a decade-long struggle with drug addiction.

Kaia explained that what was happening with her brother had affected the role she assumed within their family. She came to see herself as the “easy one” and avoided asking for help because, in her mind, having two children who needed it felt like too much.

Presley’s decision to speak publicly about his struggles also marked a major departure from how the Gerber family had traditionally handled their private lives. Her brother had chosen a different path, openly discussing parts of himself that might once have remained firmly behind closed doors.

“My parents for most of our lives were very, very private and didn’t share anything – and now we have this absolute teacher, my brother, who says, ‘I’m gonna be very human for everyone,'” Kaia said.

She added that she was “deeply proud of him.” Years before Presley began publicly talking about mental health, treatment, and his hope of helping others, the young model was already attracting attention during a turbulent period in his life.

And in February 2020, he put one particularly loaded word directly across his face.

The Story Behind Presley’s ‘Misunderstood Face Tattoo

In February 2020, at age 20, Presley documented himself getting the word “MISUNDERSTOOD” tattooed across his right cheekbone in an Instagram video.

The striking tattoo immediately attracted attention online, thrusting the young model into an unwanted storm of commentary. Presley soon made it clear that the reaction had gotten under his skin.

In March 2020, he addressed the backlash in an Instagram Story, questioning why people could make other major changes to their appearance while his small face tattoo seemed to make people “love to hate” him.

Then came another eyebrow-raising change. About a month after debuting “MISUNDERSTOOD,” Presley appeared to have added another tattoo to his face, this time on his left cheek. That sparked yet another firestorm online.

Except this time, appearances were deceiving. The second tattoo was fake. Presley clarified that detail after the reaction erupted, but his parents’ concerns were also being reported during the same period.

A source said Cindy and Rande wanted to support their adult son as he worked out what he wanted for himself. The original “MISUNDERSTOOD” tattoo, meanwhile, remained visible for some time. But it would not always look that way.

In later photographs, the once-prominent word had faded and was no longer clearly visible across Presley’s cheek. Years passed, and Presley continued doing the work that had connected him to his famous mother from the beginning of his career.

Presley continued modeling in the years that followed. His final Instagram post, shared on August 5, showed him modeling for sportswear brand Vuori Clothing.

At the time, the post was simply promotional. But following the shocking news of Presley’s death, its comment section took on an entirely different tone as followers began leaving condolences and tributes beneath the image.
